Amid ongoing struggles with youth unemployment, learnerships remain a crucial link between schooling and lasting careers. In 2025, the headline-grabbing Nampak Trainee Production Operator Learnership will empower a cohort of 48 young South Africans with the practical expertise and industry accreditation needed to excel in manufacturing.
What Is the Nampak Learnership?
Nampak, the continent’s foremost packaging provider, has joined forces with Optimum Learning Technologies to deliver a well-rounded, 12-month learnership tailor-made for unemployed youth with an eye on production and technical careers. The programme will kick off on 1 October 2025 in Nampak’s Springs manufacturing facility in Gauteng. Throughout the year, trainees will work towards an Occupational Certificate in Production Operations, registered at NQF Level 3. The qualification, recognised nationally, will significantly enhance their appeal to employers in packaging, food and beverage, and manufacturing sectors.
Programme Overview
Successful applicants will receive technical training and complete workplace integration in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Duties include rotating between roles to gain skills, shadowing experienced staff, and ensuring adherence to safety and plant regulations.
Minimum Requirements
- South African Citizenship
- Passed Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science (40%+), and English
- National Technical Certificate (advantageous)
- Unemployed (18.2)
- Basic Computer Literacy
- Reside within 50km of Nampak Springs
- Strong technical aptitude
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude
