Massmart: Learnership Opportunities 2025 / 2026

Let’s be real for a second—finding a job in South Africa right now? Not exactly a walk in the park, especially if you’re young and still trying to figure out what the heck “work experience” even means. But hey, here comes Massmart, actually doing something about it instead of just tweeting empty “youth empowerment” slogans. Their learnerships and grad gigs for 2025/2026? Kinda game-changers.

No matter if you just tossed your graduation cap, you’re a go-getter looking for a foot in the door, or you’re living with a disability and sick of getting sidelined—Massmart’s got a programme that’s literally built to help you cross that bridge from “I studied this” to “I actually do this now.”

🌍 So, Why Bother With Massmart?
Look, these folks aren’t just running the tills at Makro or stacking shelves at Game. They’re part of Walmart’s global empire, which means they know a thing or two about opportunity. Over 400 stores across SA—Massmart’s not just selling stuff, they’re kinda shaping the economy. But here’s the kicker: their real mission is about giving regular people the chance to level up, not just about driving sales.

2. Supply Chain & Logistics Learnership
Heard people say “logistics is the future”? They’re not wrong. SA’s supply chain scene is buzzing, and Massmart’s letting you get your hands dirty (not literally, unless you’re into forklifts). If you geek out over data, love solving puzzles, or just want to figure out how all the stuff you buy actually gets from A to B—this one’s for you.

Who fits in here?
– Grads in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics
– People who actually like untangling complicated messes (hello, problem-solvers)
– Anyone who wants to get paid to learn the ropes for 12–24 months, from warehouse basics to using all the fancy digital tools that make modern logistics tick

3. Retail Learnerships for Persons with Disabilities
Inclusion isn’t just a poster on the office wall at Massmart—it’s real. The retail learnership for people with disabilities? It’s actually legit. No fluff. Get proper skills, earn a stipend, and get the support you need.

Quick details:
– One year, in stores all over SA
– Monthly stipend (yes, actual money)
– Real retail/customer service training
– Mentorship and support, not just “sink or swim”

What you need:
– SA citizen, 18–35
– Matric
– Proof of disability (bring the paperwork, folks)

4. HR & Corporate Learnerships
If you’re more about people than products, HR is where it’s at. Massmart’s HR grad gig gives you a peek behind the corporate curtain—think hiring, building culture, sorting out policies, even tackling social responsibility stuff.

You’ll get to:
– Recruit talent (maybe spot the next you?)
– Manage performance (cue dramatic HR meetings)
– Wrap your head around labour relations
– Actually influence how a massive business runs

We offer a 12-month programme that provides work experience in specific areas with critical skills within the organisation. You will gain valuable work experience, explore career paths and be able to network with professionals in the field of study. During this time, you will be based in one of our Massmart Retail Stores (Gauteng, Northwest Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal) and be exposed to the world of retail.

📌 How to Get In
Honestly, applying’s not rocket science but don’t slack off—it’s competitive. Here’s the quick-and-dirty:

1. Get your docs together (CV, certified ID, your certificates, transcripts if you’ve got ’em, medical proof if you’re applying for disability)
2. Write a cover letter that doesn’t put people to sleep. Tell them why you want in and what you’re hoping to get out of it.
3. Send your stuff to graduate.recruitment@massmart.co.za or hit up their careers portal.

💡 Why Bother With All This?
Because Massmart’s not just ticking some “youth employment” box. They actually give a damn about helping young people build proper careers—not just temp jobs. These learnerships can open doors: first paycheck, a qualification people recognise, contacts in the industry, and—if you play your cards right—a shot at leading the pack someday.
