Submit CV for Education Assistants (EAs) and General School Assistants (GAs).

The Department of Basic Education is excited to welcome back thousands of unemployed youth through the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI), part of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI). This program is designed to create temporary job opportunities for South African youth as Education Assistants (EAs) and General School Assistants (GAs). Applications will be accepted from April 22 to May 9, 2025, with contracts starting on June 2, 2025. This opportunity is exclusively for youth who register via the SA Youth platform.

In terms of job responsibilities, Education Assistants will support teachers in the classroom, prepare teaching materials, assist with administrative tasks, and help improve students’ reading and learning outcomes. Meanwhile, General School Assistants will focus on general maintenance, sanitation, COVID-19 compliance, and ensuring safety and security on school grounds.

Successful applicants will be placed in public schools that are closest to the address they provide in their SA Youth profile. It’s important to note that applicants should not visit schools directly to apply; the only way to submit an application is through the sayouth.mobi platform.

To be eligible for these roles, candidates must meet the following criteria:

– Be a South African citizen
– Aged between 18 and 34 years
– Currently unemployed
– Not engaged in any form of education or training
– Not receiving any government grants (except for the Child Support Grant)
– Not enrolled in any learnership or internship during the contract period
– Live within 5 km of the school they are applying to (or 30 km for farm/rural schools)

Preference will be given to youth who have not previously participated in BEEI programs.

For the role of Education Assistant (EA), responsibilities include:

– Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom activities
– Helping with marking and assessing learners
– Providing reading support and tutoring
– Supporting learners with special education needs
– Organizing classroom activities and materials

  • Apply for schools located closest to your listed address
  • You cannot apply by visiting schools in person

Steps to Update Your Profile:

  • Go to https://sayouth.mobi and log in
  • Select “SA Youth CV” icon at the bottom right corner
  • Update your:
    • Personal details (name, ID, contact info)
    • Location (where you currently live)
    • Qualifications (even if incomplete or in progress)
    • Work experience (including informal, unpaid, or volunteer roles)
